Difference Between Football and Soccer

The terms soccer and football are often used interchangeably, but there is a difference between the two sports. Soccer is a more technical game that requires precision passing and dribbling skills. Football, on the other hand, is a more physical game that emphasizes strength and power.

Football

The game of football has a long history that dates back to 1863 when it first became known as “association” ball. The word ‘association’ was added distinction from other games such as rugby, because in those days people thought soccer-style games were just for lower class laborers who couldn’t afford real sports gear!

Soccer

However, it is not clear how the word ‘soccer’ came to be. Some people think that its origin lies in Association Football and some say rugby football softened up being shortened over time so somebody could make more sense out of what was happening on their TVs at home or where they were watching games played by other countries’ teams (which all used different rules).

Differences In Both Games

These are just a few of the differences between soccer and football. While both sports are entertaining to watch, they are quite different in terms of their rules, equipment, and popularity.

  • Football is the most popular sport in America, but it’s not alone. There are many different types of football games being played around this country and even internationally!
  • In football, the players can use their hands or feet to move a ball along an extent of field. In soccer only one side’s foot acts as if it were kicking something that would be moving across your yard at home during playtime!
  • In soccer, the ball is sphere-shaped to give it more grip and keep players from sliding on its surface. In other football games like American or Australian rules, balls are rounded so that they can travel further before Touching each other; but if there’s any contact at all between two player-“balls,” then those teams exchange points instead!

In some countries, such as Brazil and Columbia for example (and many others), soccer is played with a ball that’s different from the ones we use here in America. It has little detention than our normal orange-sized footballs – instead they’re approximately six inches long and made out of leather or plastic called ” spheres.”
